Bad Mileage: 98 tons of plants per gallon
These numbers could be way off, but it still clearly demonstrates that time is not the only factor that makes fossil fuels unsustainable. The article also fails to mention that the part of oil that isn't made into gasoline isn't all wasted. So, it may take aproximately 98 tons of plant material to make the oil needed to make a gallon of gas, but it's not fair to say that the same amount of plant material only makes a gallon of gas. Still, it's a lot of plants.

Range Extending Trailers
Now electric cars can be converted to hybrid cars and back again. While I'd rather just get a hybrid car to begin with, I think that this concept is pretty cool. Now, if you want to see something really cool, check out the video of the car backing up. The trailer doesn't jack-knife.
CBC News: Car's 'black box' convicts Montreal driver
You may not know this, but your car may be saving a record of your driving. At least the last few seconds before your airbags deploy, anyway. These recorder boxes are actually quite common in cars these days.
Atari 8-Bit Ethernet Cartridge
It's about time! Now you can use your Atari 800 as a web browser/server using ethernet. Sort of. See the link for details.

Wow. I have heard the story about NASA's space pen many, many times and I never really doubted it. I guess it isn't really true.

ACS Periodic Table
I'm not much into chemistry, but I can still appreciate a well-designed periodic table. This one is really fun. It's the first periodic table that I've ever seen that uses Shockwave. Of course, no mention of periodic tables would be complete without a link to The Wooden Periodic Table.

So, if it's only a periodic table, what is it the rest of the time?

Google Sets
Here's a fun tool from the good people at Google Labs. You can enter a list of arbitrary words and it will try to figure out, based on Google's web search database, what other words likely belong to the same set as the words that you entered. It's a great way to waste several minutes.
